Cold and Flu Season

Question: Are there any kinds of exercise that I can do to detox myself from cold or wintry season germs. I was pretty sick for the last few days from a cold and was wondering outside of medicine, vitamins, water and rest if there is anything else I can do spiritually or mentally for myself to relieve symptoms and get better quicker? Beth

There is a cold and flu homeopathy remedy, which you can get at Whole Foods or a local health food store. Just ask someone in the nutritional department and they should point you in the right direction. One brand called Quantum Cold and Flu Formula, can be found at Walsh Natural Health in Evanston, IL.
Other ideas...Drink ginger tea (I add ginger slices and lemons to the tea), take lots of Vitamin C, slow everything way down, take time to rest, say no to work, friends and anything that is too strenuous. You'll recover so much faster if you do this, vs medicating and going to work etc... Dr. Ben Kim speaks about this at his website where he wrote an article about colds and flu. Here are a couple of paragraphs from that article.

"So in the big scheme of things, a cold or flu is a truly natural tool that can allow your body to purge itself of old and damaged cells that, in the absence of viral infection, would normally take much longer to identify, destroy, and eliminate.

Have you ever been amazed by how much "stuff" you could blow out of your nose while you had a cold or the flu? Embedded within all of that mucous are countless dead cells that your body is saying good bye to, largely due to the lytic effect of viruses."

Having just recovered from a cold myself. I did find myself taking some cough medicine during the night in order to sleep. I believe everything in moderation is the key. Think of yourself as purging the old and making way for a new healthy body. Focus on the contrast of your experience on how great it feels when you're energized, perfectly well and filled with vitality. Anticipate this experience happening shortly and how grateful you will be when your health returns.

For exercise...I have found laughing helps a lot. Visit YouTube and research old Seinfeld or I Love Lucy episodes, laughing babies or laughter yoga which are all very funny. You can always stretch gently when you're feeling at your weakest and slowly start to do some simple standing or seated yoga postures such as twists, which help to detoxify the body. Avoid postures where your head is lowered if you are suffering from a head cold, such as forward folds and downward facing dog. Here's to your health!
